Zakat and Ushr Council’s Scholarship Approval

The Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council recently held its 27th meeting, which was presided over by Secretary Mian Abrar Ahmed. Several critical issues were discussed at this meeting, particularly emphasizing the distribution of educational scholarships.

The council authorized 15,785 scholarships for eligible students at all educational levels, covering intermediate, baccalaureate, and postgraduate programs and professional institutes offering medical, engineering, and computer science degrees.

Supporting Deserving Students

The educational scholarships, totaling more than 133.4 million rupees, would benefit students enrolled in 334 educational institutions spread throughout all 36 districts of Punjab.

These scholarships are intended to give financial assistance to worthy students, allowing them to keep up their studies without financial restraints.

Furthermore, approximately 12 crores and 2 million rupees have been sanctioned for 17,585 worthy students enrolled in 171 religious madaris spread throughout 28 districts.

The Educational Stipend Program

The Educational Stipend (general) scholarship program, established by the Government of Punjab’s Zakat and Ushr departments, is critical in assisting eligible students.

Students enrolled in accredited colleges, universities, technical institutions, and other academic and vocational schools throughout Punjab are eligible for financial support under this program.

Local Zakat Committees determine eligibility (Istehqaq), which the educational institution’s scholarship committee approves.

Application Process and Committee Evaluation

Students who qualify can apply for the scholarship by applying for the director of their university. The local zakat committee evaluates the applications in partnership with the scholarship committee. This committee comprises the following:

  • Head of the Institution
  • Class Teacher
  • Elected member of the District Zakat Committee.

Depending on their assessment, the District Zakat Committee releases monies to the relevant educational institution, which subsequently distributes the payment to qualified pupils.

Impact and Empowerment

The scholarships awarded by the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council would have a life-changing impact on the recipients. These scholarships will allow worthy students to focus on academics, realize their full potential, and achieve their educational goals.

Furthermore, these scholarships help to foster a community that values and invests in education. This eventually will lead to Punjab’s overall development and prosperity.

Conclusion

The Council’s acceptance of 33,370 scholarships demonstrates the government’s commitment to empowering deserving students and providing equitable educational opportunities. These scholarships will not only relieve financial hardships but will also act as a stimulus for academic performance and personal growth. Punjab is cultivating a generation of talented persons who will contribute to the region’s progress and prosperity by investing in education.
