Private Universities Are Receiving Charters Without Mandatory Scrutiny
Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, the governor of Punjab province, has claimed that charters are being granted to private universities in an arbitrary and hasty manner In a press conference on Wednesday, he stated that charters are being granted to private universities without consideration of their quality.
Historically, charter school applications have been scrutinized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), and the Higher Education Department (HED).
Furthermore, he pointed out that education policies are not developed in a timely manner due to a lack of resources. Although they have been in operation for two years, Aitchison College and Lawrence College have yet to develop policies. Therefore, higher education institutions are unable to achieve their full potential.
