Test Pattern for MDCAT 2024

This test is basically a multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination. It essentially is designed to assess the eligibility and intelligence of applicants. The test includes multiple-choice questions in English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Because it tests the intelligence and reasoning ability of a student, students who are used to rote studying have a difficult time clearing this test. In short or in layman’s terms, it is a conceptual test. Thus, students need to study thoroughly and understand things.

By 2021, there has been a change in the syllabus of MDCAT. Now, it also includes intelligence questions which basically assess basic logical reasoning and math skills. A logical reasoning test is a kind of IQ test. In a logical reasoning test, questions are sort of puzzles.

These questions are basically added to check your problem-solving skills. These questions come in various forms but the underlying cause of each is just to check your understanding and way to solve a certain problem. For this you, don’t need basic course study, it’s from general knowledge and common sense.

The syllabus for this test would be your FSc books which include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. But the weightage of MCQs from each subject varies in MDCAT. Previously the weightage was as:

  • Intelligence questions (Logical reasoning+Mathematics) 5% (10 MCQs)
  • Biology 32% (68 MCQs)
  • Physics 26.5% (56 MCQs)
  • Chemistry 26.5% (56 MCQs)
  • English 10% (20 MCQs)

So, the total of MDCAT will be 210 MCQs, for which 3 hours and 30 minutes will be given. The test is computer-based so, the result will be shown on your screens after 30 minutes of the attempt.

New Changes Regarding Marking In MDCAT

Each MCQ carries one mark, and no negative marking will be done. Previously one mark was deducted if one MCQ was wrong. Moreover, if the candidate hasn’t attempted any questions, no mark will be awarded or deducted.

From now on, there will also be no pass-fail criteria like in the past. In past, a candidate with 50% marks was declared to fail in MDCAT.

In order to get admission to any medical or dental college, you need to score 70% in FSc and 60% in MDCAT. It is said that MDCAT will be held online, hence no negative marking will be done.
